Dallas Mavericks: Kyrie Irving’s Klay Thompson Comments Will Have Fans Excited for the 2024-25 Season

NBA fans don’t usually consider the Dallas Mavericks the top-of-mind choice to come out of the Western Conference by June. However, these same fans would cede that their teams would have a tough time stopping a team featuring Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson from scoring.

While fans can expect Luka Magic to consistently be one of the most unstoppable players in the league, fans have enough reason to be excited about Uncle Drew’s condition. The 32-year-old guard, who spent the offseason recovering from the physical and mental toll of the game, is eager to return to the Finals and win his second NBA championship.

Like many Dallas fans, he’s positive about Klay’s inclusion into the team. The former Splash Brother is eager to get the season on the road and prove many of his doubters wrong about him being washed.

In a show of support, Kai shared his honest thoughts about the prospect of playing with the four-time NBA champ.

When you ask basketball players about what it would be like playing with a prospective teammate, many would describe their on-court performances and what they can add to the team.

However, Irving looked at Thompson’s situation differently. He talked about what kind of a person he is off the court.

Per Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban:

“He just stays to himself, loves his family, loves what he does for a living, loves helping out people, loves traveling,” Irving said of Thompson on Monday. “He’s just an overall good person. It’s a luxury that we don’t take for granted having that type of guy and that type of personality in our locker room.”

The fact that he didn’t even talk about Klay’s potential impact on Dallas’ game plans shows how much he trusts the sharpshooter. While Klay had a down year in his final run with the Warriors, he still averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 43.2%/38.7%/92.7% shooting splits.

With a team that reached the Finals like the Dallas Mavericks, chemistry is more important than just raw numbers. If Kyrie is giddy at the prospect of playing with Klay, Mavs fans should also look forward to how their new sniper would perform in Texas.
