The Dallas Mavericks are quietly building their win-loss record to make a return to the NBA Finals. Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the rest of the Mavs roster are determined to right the poor showing they had against the Boston Celtics last June.
While the Mavs have a good record in the West, Luka was handed a terrible hand for his MVP hopes this season. The Slovenian wonder is putting up fewer numbers than last season, and his injury issues this campaign essentially killed off any chances of him winning the MVP award and a spot in an All-NBA team.

It may be a terrible week for Mavs fans, but one former player of their came to his former teammate when it comes to the MVP conversation.
Jalen Brunson calls out the league’s MVP process for eliminating his former Dallas Mavericks teammate from contention

Jalen Brunson is a current NBA star who, more than anyone else outside of the Mavs locker room, fully understands how incredible Doncic has been for the franchise that traded for him in the 2018 Draft. The New York Knicks star complained that Doncic’s disqualification from the award makes little sense when you consider Nikola Jokic’s situation.
Per Sports Illustrated’s Austin Veazey:
“Jokic is playing absolutely absurd, his numbers are crazy,” Brunson started on his podcast, “The Roommates Show.” “[Denver is] not seeded where they were last year, right? And people are still talking about him being MVP. Individually, he deserves it, but when Luka was averaging damn near a triple-double [last season], but their seed wasn’t where people wanted it to be, they were like, ‘Oh, he shouldn’t get MVP because of his seeding.’ Obviously, Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander] is getting up there, closing in as the number one guy right now, I’m just like, ‘Why do certain narratives work for some people?'”
Brunson voices a growing sentiment over how the MVP award is being decided. There are years when the award is given to the best player of the league’s best team, while other years have the best player throughout the association getting the nod.
With the flimsy decision-making process affecting Luka’s chances of getting the MVP, it’s fair to see when Brunson among other people is getting fed up with how the MVP is being decided.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time for Luka to win an MVP award. However, it’s frustrating for Dallas fans that their star man isn’t getting the horns they think he deserves from the league.
