The NBA is a star-driven league, but teams can also just be as good as their front offices. Take for example the Dallas Mavericks, who have benefited from the savviness of general manager Nico Harrison.
With Harrison at the helm, the Mavericks were able to pull off crucial trades last season that played crucial in the team’s deep run in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. It can be recalled that the Mavericks fortified the supporting cast of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving by adding Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington. And speaking of Irving, Harrison and the Mavs took a gamble on the Uncle Drew and it’s been paying off for the team, notwithstanding the loss in the finals to the Boston Celtics.
And then, of course, there’s Dallas landing Klay Thompson via a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors.
Is Harisson done? That remains to be seen but he’s certainly captured the attention of NBA fans.

“Mavs went to the finals and Nico added Klay Thompson, Quentin Grimes, Naji Marshall, and didn’t give up any of their 1st round picks. And they still have $4M to spend on a bench piece. Major shout out to Nico Harrison.”
