Kyrie Irving has been on the receiving end of so much love and praise during his time with the Dallas Mavericks. However, there’s one stat involving the All-Star guard that will worry his fans before the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.
Irving first made his way to Boston after requesting a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Instead of becoming the player they needed, his time with the franchise was marred by injuries and controversies. As a result, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, but failed in the playoffs for three seasons.

After his stint playing with two-time champion Kevin Durant and James Harden was done in Brooklyn, Irving was traded to the Mavericks to pair up with All-Star guard Luka Doncic. Although they failed to make the playoffs in his first season there, the duo would go on to do great this year.
Over the course of 58 regular season games, Irving averaged 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. Although he posted lower numbers in the 17 games he played during the playoffs, his experience and clutch factor has afforded the Mavericks a reliable star to close out games. As a result, Dallas has returned to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2011.

Taking a look at the bigger picture and Irving doesn’t necessarily perform that bad against Boston, as evidenced by his averages of 23.3 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.9 rebounds over the course of 26 games against them. Nevertheless, losing 10 straight games to the Celtics will surely be a cause of concern for the Mavericks faithful.
