The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly looking to bring back a familiar face this summer to strengthen their guard depth to try and get back to the NBA Finals next season.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in Dennis Smith Jr. and Spencer Dinwiddie, who played for the team not too long ago.
“The Dallas Mavericks have considered bringing one of two former guards back to the team, Spencer Dinwiddie and Dennis Smith Jr, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote in his column. “Dinwiddie played some of the best basketball of his career for the Mavericks alongside Luka Doncic in the backcourt before he was traded as part of the package to acquire Kyrie Irving.”
“Smith Jr, who began his career with Dallas as the No. 9 overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft, is regarded as one of the top defensive on-ball point guards and has found a niche as a solid backup point guard over the past few seasons,” he added.

Scotto added that if the Dallas Mavericks failed to get Spencer Dinwiddie or Dennis Smith Jr., they have Malachi Flynn, who had a 50-point game for the Detroit Pistons last season, as a backup.
Dallas Mavericks’ moves so far this offseason
Perhaps one of the biggest transactions this summer was the Dallas Mavericks’ acquisition of Klay Thompson via a sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets that will earn him roughly $50 million for the next three years. Josh Green was also moved to the Charlotte Hornets as a result.

The Dallas Mavericks also signed Naji Marshall to a three-year contract. They also acquired Quentin Grimes from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks.
Derrick Jones Jr., meanwhile, left the Dallas Mavericks after signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.
