The Dallas Mavericks may not be done making noise in the offseason. Having already made big splashes since the 2023-24 NBA season ended by adding the likes of Klay Thompson, Quentin Grimes, and Naji Marshall to the fold, the Mavs appear to be looking in the direction of a former player in the form of Spencer Dinwiddie.
“Dallas could elect to keep the spot open in the short-term, but league sources say that the Mavericks do hold an interest in re-signing Spencer Dinwiddie,” Stein said in his piece on Substack (h/t Grant Afseth of SI.com)
Dinwiddie is not a stranger to Dallas basketball. He spent parts of two seasons with the Mavericks from 2022 to 2023. He was traded by the Washington Wizards to the Mavs in February 2022 along with Davis Bertans in the deal that landed the Wizards Kristaps Porzingis. He was then traded by the Mavericks to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023 together with Dorian Finney-Smith and some picks for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris.

In 76 games played for the Mavericks, including 60 starts, Dinwiddie averaged 17.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and posting a 40.4 3-point percentage.

For what it’s worth, the Mavericks are still $13 million under the second tax apron and around $2.5 million below the first tax apron.
Should Dallas add Dinwiddie (again), their backcourt will get a little crowded and deeper, with the likes of Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy also on the roster.
