The Dallas Mavericks came to the season with high hopes with their veteran-ladened line up and their 2025 top pick but things haven’t gone the way they were supposed to. At least in the first two games.
They dropped their first assignment against their San Antonio Spurs and they were just manhandled as they had no answer to Victor Wembanyama who recorded 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks. They then stumbled against a team they were supposed to beat when they lost to the Washington Wizards to go 0-2.

They will finally make their debut at the American Airlines Center on Sunday as they host the Toronto Raptors and they should feel more sense of urgency now, especially after the boo they received from their traveling fans after that loss to Wizards.
Mavs are on the verge of recording their worst start in eight years in case they fall to 0-3 against the Raptors.

Critica are not high on Raptors’ 2025-26 season campaign but they are a retooled team that can be dangerous. Led by Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram, they are currently 1-1 after beating the Atlanta Hawks in their first assignment. They lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in their second outing but Giannis Antetokounmpo and company had to bleed before settling for 116-122 defeat.
Dallas Mavericks are not worried
The Mavs are being doubted but team personnel are not panicking. Anthony Davis said he has zero worry as they have only played just two games so far.
Anthony Davis on his concern level after two straight losses:
“Zero. It’s two games. Just got to be better defensively. I think we’re gonna play the big lineup…We’ve just got to do a better job with our switching, our low man…We’ve gotta do a better job on the defensive end, I… pic.twitter.com/I0lt0YVoUB

As for head coach Jason Kidd, he said they are being patient as it is still time for adjustment for them.
“It’s a new team. We’re just getting to understand each other,” Kidd said.
“I would say be patient, but I understand the frustration. We all want to win at a high level, and this is a game of expression. Fans have a right to express themselves. But that doesn’t stop us from coming to work and getting better and getting ready for Sunday.”
