Darian DeVries was let go by the West Virginia Mountaineers after coaching the team for a single season. While DeVries has found another home with Indiana for the upcoming NCAA season, West Virginia is yet to find a head coach candidate. However, as per college basketball insider Pete Nakos, the vacant spot might soon be filled.
Nakos reported that Chester Frazier and Jerrod Calhoun are being seriously considered to take up the head coach role with the West Virginia Mountaineers. However, nothing has been officially announced by the team’s management.
Darian DeVries has been in the coaching game since 2001 when he joined the Creighton Bluejays as an assistant coach. DeVries continued coaching the team until 2018, and then joined the Drake Bulldogs where he coached until 2024.
As a player, DeVries played for the Northern Iowa Panthers for four seasons, from 1994 to 1998. In his career, DeVries managed to win the Arch Madness tournament, also known as the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference tournament, twice. He was also awarded the Hugh Durham Award back in 2019.
