The user’s family plans to watch the Gamecocks’ next match against the Missouri Tigers in memory of their deceased member. Dawn Staley gave her deceased fan a proper closure by defeating the Tigers dominatingly, 82-53, led by MiLaysia Fulwiley’s 17 points and four rebounds.
South Carolina is now 13-1 and sixth in the Southeastern Conference. They are also defending the national championship.
The Gamecocks seek to extend their eight-game winning streak against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on January 6.
Dawn Staley reflects on 2024 and championship season
As 2024 ended, Dawn Staley sent a message to South Carolina Gamecocks fans, reflecting on the team’s undefeated run and eventual NCAA championship last season. In a video sent by WIS 10 News, Staley shared the New Year’s Day message for her supporters:
“We enjoy our incredible season. Last year, it surely was an uncommon favorite for us all. We are an uncommon team. We have uncommon fams. We have uncommon coverage. It’s not like that everywhere you go across this country, especially when it comes to women’s basketball. But you make us special,” Staley said.
Staley acknowledged that the Gamecocks wouldn’t get the same 38-0 record last season but clarified that her team is still hunting for the championship trophy, their fourth under her.
“If we can repeat the energy and effort that went into us having the type of perfect season, although we don’t have a perfect record, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a perfect season for us. So, thank you for your continued support and love,” Staley said.
Dawn Staley’s ambitions continue to heat the Southeastern Conference as her team seeks to bolster their glory on the national scene. She clarified that the Gamecocks will remain in the playoffs under her.
Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks’ run so far: A short delve
Dawn Staley entered her 17th season with the South Carolina Gamecocks last November as they won their first match against Michigan. The team had a five-game winning streak until they lost against UCLA.
Staley’s Gamecocks never faltered despite their loss and are one of the Southeastern Conference’s formidable teams with a 13-1 standing. Among the team’s leading players are Te-Hina Paopao and Joyce Edwards.
The Gamecocks seek to defend their national championship this season. They remain the first in the SEC, and with Dawn Staley’s postseason experience, many await the team’s journey in the playoffs this March.
