Brian Windhorst recently revealed that the Denver Nuggets and Aaron Gordon are engaged in extension talks ahead of the 2024-25 NBA campaign. However, according to the veteran ESPN analyst, both sides have yet to meet halfway since the Denver Nuggets are “hoping” to sign Gordon below his max.

“From what I understand, they are negotiating with Aaron Gordon,” said Brian Windhorst on Friday’s episode of The Hoop Collective. “Aaron Gordon was eligible for a four-year, $150 million-ish contract extension. They haven’t handed out that offer, otherwise he would have signed it.
“From what I understand, they are negotiating and they’re hopeful of getting him at less than what would be his quote, unquote max. We’ll see if that get that done, but I think they’re trying to do a negotiation there,” he concluded.

Aaron Gordon has two years left on his contract. He will earn roughly $22.8 million in 2024-25 and has a player option of the same amount in 2025-26. The one-time NBA champion can receive a four-year, $150 million extension.
Should the Denver Nuggets give Aaron Gordon his max deal?
The Denver Nuggets have until October 21 to sign Aaron Gordon to a new deal. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, if the two sides cannot agree to terms, the Denver Nuggets may have to consider trading the former No. 4 overall pick.

“They need to pay (Gordon), they know it, but there are some salary restrictions moving forward in the years to come, and if they can’t get there with an extension with him, you look into free agency next year with a player option, he’s going to be coveted by any team with cap space, so that is a worry for Denver right now before the start of the regular season,” Charania stated on the Pat McAfee show earlier in October.
Aaron Gordon has played a key role in the Denver Nuggets’ championship run in 2022-23. However, given his limitations and lack of an NBA All-Star selection, $150 million may be too steep to pay for the high-flying forward, especially after they gave Jamal Murray his bag.
