The Denver Nuggets failed to defend the NBA crown they won in 2023 as they got eliminated by Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Even then, the Nuggets continue to be regarded as among the legitimate title contenders for the coming 2024-25 campaign.
With the 1-2 punch of big man Nikola Jokic and point guard Jamal Murray, the Nuggets have a reliable tandem to rely on. That’s not to mention the presence of a quality support group that features the likes of Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon.
However, the depth behind Murray appears to be far from the liking of Nuggets head coach Michael Malone, who recently alluded that his team needs a reliable backup for the Canadian star and that Denver’s front office is in the process of addressing that need.
Via Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports:
Michael Malone on ESPN was asked about what holes are still on the Nuggets’ roster. He says backup point guard: “Somebody to play behind Jamal Murray.”
“Calvin Booth’s all over it.”
The Denver Nuggets looking to improve PG depth

The Nuggets lost Murray’s chief backup last season when they parted ways with Reggie Jackson via a complicated six-team trade that sent the veteran guard to the Charlotte Hornets.
At the moment, the Nuggets have Trey Alexander, Jalen Pickett, and Christian Braun behind Murray in the point guard depth chart. Alexander is an intriguing asset the Nuggets may develop. He was signed by Denver to a two-way deal after not getting selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. In his final two years with the Creighton Bluejays, Alexander averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 37.2 percent from the 3-point area.
