The Detroit Pistons are undergoing a major upheaval this offseason. For starters, they’ve appointed Trajan Langdon to become the President of Basketball Operations, and they let go of Troy Weaver in the process.

The team also has the 2024 NBA Draft to focus on, as they have the No. 5 and 53 picks, which they can use to add to their young core.
The Detroit Pistons haven’t done much in the last few years, but the one bright spot they have is Cade Cunningham, their top overall pick in 2021. The 22-year-old combo guard is coming off a career season, averaging 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game on 44.9 percent shooting from the field in 62 regular-season games.

Building around Cade Cunningham is the way for the Detroit Pistons if they have plans to make some noise in the Eastern Conference soon. And recent reports suggest that Detroit is keen on doing so.
Cade Cunningham to get a MASSIVE max rookie extension from the Detroit Pistons
James Edwards III of The Athletic said that Cade Cunningham is expected to get the bag worth up to $225 million for five years barring unforeseen circumstances in his mailbag article on Thursday.

“I’m 99.9 percent sure that Cunningham gets an extension this offseason,” Edwards wrote. “I don’t want to say 100 percent because you never know what can happen, but I’d be stunned if the 2021 No. 1 overall pick doesn’t sign a max rookie extension.”
“Cunningham made meaningful improvements on a team that just won 14 games and had a 28-game losing streak. I find it hard to believe that the Pistons’ decision-makers didn’t walk away from this past season thinking Cunningham is worth building around for the long haul. So yeah, I think Cunningham gets the extension,” he concluded.
While locking down Cunningham for the long-term is a good first step in the Detroit Pistons’ rebuild, surrounding him with winning pieces will be the next part of the agenda for Trajan Langdon and co.
