Former NBA champion Jeff Teague believes that Cade Cunningham is making a compelling case for this year’s MVP award after leading the Detroit Pistons to a 21-5 start, good for the Eastern Conference’s top seed.
The Detroit Pistons star recently improved to fourth in the updated MVP ladder. However, Teague thinks that Cunningham deserves it more than the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic because of his inferior supporting cast.
“He’s the frontrunner for the MVP. Because on his team, he has no other star. Everybody else got legit stars on their team. He’s the only star,” Teague said of Cunningham on the Club 520 podcast. “He’s (Cunningham) the only guaranteed bona fide star on that team. Everybody else, Jalen Williams, all defensive, all NBA, Shai, Chet. LeBron, Luka, Austin Reaves, everybody got considerations.”
“He definitely should be in the top one or two in MVP. For me, No. 1 is just because he doesn’t have any help. And I’m not disrespecting they seem. I’m just saying, as far as like stars,” he added.

Detroit Pistons News: Cade Cunningham dishes on the secret to their recent success
The Detroit Pistons are on a four-game winning streak, following a 112-105 road win against the Boston Celtics on Monday night, and Cade Cunningham credited their late-game execution as the reason behind the victory.
“Good teams make the least mistakes. Good teams know the timing of the game, and when plays have to be made. I think we’re just getting better at that,” Cunningham explained via Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.
On Monday, Cunningham posted a team-high 32 points, four rebounds, 10 assists, and six three-pointers on 11-for-21 shooting from the field across 36 minutes of action.
