Minnesota Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington had one of the stranger nights of her season against her old squad, the Dallas Wings. Midway through the second quarter, play stopped after she lost her contact lens.
It turned into comedy when Wings guard Grace Berger spotted the missing lens and handed it back. The Lynx broadcast booth had fun with it, joking about whether Carrington got it back in correctly. Moments later, she missed a wide-open Jessica Shepard, which only fueled the playful commentary.

Carrington later jumped on X to react. “Home announcers being shady is crazy work, can’t lie. anyways, pray for me yall,” she posted.

The “pray for me” line had another layer. A few possessions after the lens fiasco, Carrington grabbed at her shoulder in pain after fouling Diamond Miller. Head coach Cheryl Reeve later said it was a partial dislocation.
To make the night even more ironic, the announcers joked someone should record Berger with an “assist” for finding Carrington’s lens—a funny twist since the two were teammates in Dallas not long ago.
Paige Bueckers on DiJonai Carrington: “We have a great relationship”
DiJonai Carrington’s transition from Dallas to Minnesota has been impactful despite Sunday’s scare. She’s averaging double figures off the bench in 2025 and quickly settled into Reeve’s defense-first system.
Paige Bueckers, who spent her rookie year alongside Carrington with the Wings, said after their most recent matchup that the bond they built in Dallas hasn’t gone away.

“Basketball has a great way of connecting people…we (PB & DC) got really close. She just let me be me and let me annoy her…we have a great relationship…I just like enjoying competing against this Minnesota Lynx team…I met a lot of them at All-Star,” Bueckers shared.
She added: “She’s been just very supportive and helping me find who I am on this team, and helping me find my voice and always instilling confidence in me to be aggressive and be whatever this team needs me to be…And it’s been fun to pick on her, annoy her, get on her nerves. So, it’s a big sister-little sister type of feeling.”
For now, the Lynx will wait on the results of Carrington’s shoulder before the playoff push heats up. Her defensive edge makes her a natural fit, but staying healthy could be the key to how far this group goes.
