The Connecticut Sun is on the verge of changing ownership, as in the past months, three large investors, one of whom is from Donald Trump‘s administration, have been involved. On Thursday, Tilman Fertitta, Trump’s ambassador to Italy and San Marino, has set his eyes on buying the Sun.
Fertitta looks like a strong fit for the WNBA’s big-picture plans. According to Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile, the league is eyeing a move to relocate the Sun’s franchise to Houston under the Comets name, a team that lived from 1997 up to 2008. And with Fertitta already at the helm of the Houston Rockets, he could be the one to lead the push.

“Houston’s expansion bid, led by Fertitta — who is currently serving as the Trump administration’s ambassador to Italy — was reportedly short of the $250 million expansion fee paid by Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia (all were recently awarded expansion franchises),” the article wrote.
“However, if Fertitta is willing to pay the sale price… plus a relocation fee to expedite the process of getting a team, the league would favor that deal, one source familiar with the sale told FOS.”
However, even with Fertitta, one of Donald Trump’s party, slightly leading the race, two more figures had placed their bets. The first one was Steve Pagliuca, who weeks ago offered $325 million to buy the Sun from its owners, the Mohegan Tribe, and relocate it to Boston instead. While Boston is a perfect place for the big leagues, the WNBA, led by Cathy Engelbert, declined this and was never presented to the directors’ board.

Another figure is Marc Lasry, former Milwaukee Bucks co-owner, who also matched Pagliuca’s offer. However, he intends to relocate the Sun to a nearby Connecticut city, and is overshadowed by Fertitta’s lucrative deal.
Donald Trump aims for the Nobel Prize, citing “peacemaking” efforts during presidential term
Donald Trump has been deeply influential in US politics, and yet again, he wants to take a step further. From brushing off the suggestion of winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump and his administration are now on the hunt for it. In fact, the White House itself recently noted the POTUS’ diplomatic victories, such as handling conflicts between Israel and the Arab states.
To back this up, according to Donald Trump’s secretary, Karoline Levitt, he has brokered roughly one peace talk per month, solidifying his reputation as a true “peacemaker.” However, many people, especially in Trump’s home nation, would say otherwise, pointing out his violent ICE campaigns in the past months, or his tariff implementations on certain nations.
