Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back after his sit-down with Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, co-authors of the explosive new book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. In his Wednesday show, Smith acknowledged that former President Donald Trump and his supporters now appear justified in their long-standing criticisms of Joe Biden’s mental fitness.
“When you take into consideration what several folks, if not many, were willing to do to conceal the cognitive decline that President Biden was enduring, nobody comes out looking better than Donald Trump and the MAGA right,” Smith said.
He argued that the Democratic Party and legacy media may have unintentionally boosted the Republican narrative through efforts to hide Biden’s condition.
“The things they were saying, the things they were accusing the left and the legacy media of—whether it’s true or not—they look right,” Smith added.

Democrats and Donald Trump’s Republicans’ reign could soon be over, says Smith
The aftermath of the 2024 election and the revelations in Original Sin may mark more than just a Republican resurgence led by Donald Trump—it could be a signal for deeper change. Smith believes the fallout from Biden’s presidency could open the door for a more diverse political playing field.
“We’ve got a two-party system. Maybe this opens the door for an independent party… You don’t get to take advantage of or take for granted anybody anymore,” he said.

“As a result, the skeptical eye expands, and we’re able to look at the left and the right with the cynicism and the skepticism both may deserve,” Smith said. “Which means in order to get our vote, both parties have to work for it.”

He concluded, “If that’s what ends up happening—even though the road through that path was a bit rough—in the end, we’ll all be better off for it.”
