Looks like Team World in the upcoming All-Star Game next month is just going to get more formidable. That is if Donovan Mitchell’s wish comes true.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star said he wants to play for Team World in the upcoming event. The new format says it will be international players versus Americans.
Mitchell has played for Team USA in FIBA tournaments before. He was born in New York. What people don’t know though is that his mother is from Panama. He is using this fact to campaign for himself to become part of Team World.
He also said that it will his way of paying tribute to the legacy of his parents.
“My grandmother being from Panama, she came over here on a boat. No plan, no money. And two generations later, here we are,” he said.
“The legacy that she started was with really no idea of how she was going to get going or what she was going to do for her family. There is no me without her. We’re not in this position without her. And to be able to take care of my family … it all starts because of her.”

Donovan Mitchell in Team USA
Getting to Team World should not be that hard for Mitchell in case commissioner Adam Silver approves. The only question will be about whether he will start or not.
Locked in for the guard positions are Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Doncic and 2025 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are respectively from Slovenia and Canada.

Canadian Jamal Murray is also having an All-Star season and it will not be surprising if he gets the reserve slot.
They will play alongside superstars Nikola Jokic (DEN), Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL).
The second round of All-Star fan voting has been released and Mitchell is fifth in the East with more than 1.5 million votes. He is fourth among guards.
