Draymond Green revealed that his view on life post-retirement has shifted as he moves deeper into the later stages of his NBA career. The Golden State Warriors forward admitted that plans he once dismissed now carry consideration.
The legend’s comments about his future come after the Warriors’ win vs. the Trail Blazers 119–97 on Tuesday night in San Francisco. Minutes after Green’s comment went viral, speculation around his future broke the internet.
Draymond Green Reflects on Life After NBA
Green opened up about the issue while joining reporters following the game. He said coaching is no longer something he immediately rules out, even though it was never part of his plan earlier in his career.
“As I get closer to the end, I think a little bit more about it,” Green said after the win. “If you would’ve asked me two years ago, I would’ve told you hell no. It’s not an absolute no anymore.”
“As I get closer to the end, I think a little bit more about it. I’m definitely closer than I was a couple of years ago. If you would’ve asked me two years ago, I would’ve told you hell no… It’s not an absolute no anymore for me.”

He further added, “But as you get closer to the end, you start to think, ‘Oh man, what is it that I really want to do?’ And I don’t know that it will—it’s not an absolute no anymore for me. Once you start to learn more about it and dig deeper into it, as you get older, you get closer to the coaching staff, and you start to see more. So I’m not gonna sit here and tell you, ‘Yes, I’m gonna coach when I’m done.’ But I won’t tell you no anymore.”
Green explained that spending more time around the coaching staff has influenced his thinking. He said age and experience have allowed him to see the role differently. The closer he gets to the end of his playing career, the more value he places on passing knowledge forward.
Out on the floor, Green shapes play even when not putting up big numbers. When they faced Portland, his defense tightened, holding the Trail Blazers to just 97. The team still turns around his presence. Tough shots came early from both Green and Moody at tip-off, hitting threes side by side, together making 13 in the opening stretch.
Now, Green’s focus remains on finishing the season and helping the Warriors win. Even at 35, in his 14th NBA season, the legend continues to deliver elite performances despite having an uncertain future.
