Miami Heat fans were on Erik Spoelstra’s case for benching Kel’el Ware in their loss to the Chicago Bulls. Ware is supposed to be team’s future but he barely get minutes in recent weeks.
Spo’s trust rating in the fanbase is generally high. However, when it comes to handling of their 2024 15th pick, opinions are strong.

Ware played 3 minutes and 11 seconds in the 7-point loss to Bulls. The opponents did not have their big men in that game namely Jalen Smith and Nikola Vucevic.
Spoelstra, who seemed tired of always discussing Ware during presscon, said it was a decision based on how he read the situation at that time. Bulls did not have their main front court and did not have their big point guard in Josh Giddey, too.
“Look I know every press conference ends up being about him and I really dont want it to be that,” the coach said post-game.
“This is not a knock on Kel’el. This game was so fast. They were playing SFs at Center. The advantage was the speed.”
He also clarified that it has nothing to do with Ware’s abilities.

Erik Spoelstra says he can do it better
Ware played 18 minutes in their revenge win on Sunday. He had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Heat dominated Bulls by 41 points.
Spoelstra recognized the criticisms thrown at him and insisted that he, like the players, is all about learning. He also said that his works includes instilling confidence in young players.

“We all just want to do better, and that includes the head coach. I have to do a better job with this group. We have the potential we can see, it’s a matter of consistency, and that’s what I’m here for,” he said.
“Also, to hold the young guys accountable, and we have more of them than in recent history, but also develop them and infuse confidence in them. That’s a fine balance, but that’s what I’m here for. I want to take that challenge and be better with thatin these final 30 games.”
