Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has been putting Kel’el Ware under the microscope this season, seen through the ways he thoroughly discuss the big man’s performance each media appearances.

He can be critical but he also makes sure to let the public know when Ware is doing something. Like the recent game against the Denver Nuggets.
Spoelstra thinks Ware learned his lesson the first time he played against Nikola Jokic. In that game, the 2024 15th overall pick had 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals. They lost and he had a team worst -14.
They won the rematch and Spoelstra made sure to notice how Ware improved his game, thanks to a much better discipline he’s had.
“Kel’el activity level was better, his discipline was better. If you just look at the 1st Denver game compared to this one he was much more attuned into our system,” the coach told reporters after their dominant 147-124 win.
“You can see the growth in a matter of months.”

Ware started the game this time and finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds. However, there was not enough minutes for him to size up with Nikola Jokic who had to leave the game after getting injured in the first half.
Bam Adebayo loves playing with Kel’el Ware
Ware got to play more with Bam Adebayo this time. Spoelstra use him as a substitute for the three-time All-Star.
Adebayo, who recently went on a slump when his team was losing, expressed enjoyment in playing alongside the young center.
He said he is thankful because Ware is making his life better because he does not have to do everything.

Bam on Ware:
“Sometimes I can get a break & go guard somebody else in the corner. We trade off, switch jobs. For me it’s better than being the lone big out there. You gotta do it on your own. So, I’m thankful for Kel’el.” pic.twitter.com/DSjLzDhuMi
