A man threw his pair of retro Jordans in the trash. He did so after a video of Michael Jordan with a child at the 2026 Daytona 500 spread online.
The video showed Michael Jordan during the victory celebration for Tyler Reddick, who drives for the 23XI Racing team. Michael Jordan owns part of that team. Reddick won the race on February 15 at Daytona International Speedway.

In the short clip, Michael Jordan stands next to Reddick’s six-year-old son, Beau. His hand moves near the boy’s lower back and leg. The video gained millions of views. Many people who watched it said the action looked ‘inappropriate’.

Later videos and statements from people near the family showed what really happened. The boy was wet and cold from ice and water that had been poured during the team celebration. Michael Jordan, who has known the Reddick family for years, reached to pull ice out of the back of the boy’s shirt. He was trying to stop the boy from getting too cold.

The man who threw away his shoes recorded himself doing it. He dropped the retro Jordans straight into a bin. The shared video on X quickly drew thousands of likes and replies.
People who saw the man’s video said he acted only to gain attention. Several replies noted that he likely took the shoes back out of the bin as soon as the camera stopped recording. One reply said, “Man went right back into that trash can after the clip and took them shits right out for stupid bait video.”

The Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s biggest race. Tyler Reddick’s win marked a high point for 23XI Racing, the team Michael Jordan co-owns with Denny Hamlin. Michael Jordan entered NASCAR in 2020.
No statement has come from Michael Jordan about the video or the man’s actions. The Reddick family has not spoken publicly about the matter beyond the explanation of the ice in the shirt.
The man in the video has not been named. His short clip has added to the online talk that started with the original celebration footage.
