Tuesday’s 120-117 loss against the Boston Celtics was the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first of the season. The Cavs had an impressive 15-0 start to the 2024-25 NBA season before the Celtics ended their winning streak. Cleveland’s All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell led the team and put up a fight with his 35-point performance.
Before the game, the Cavs were hopeful to continue their franchise-best start of 15 consecutive wins. However, the defending champions were too much as All-Star Jayson Tatum had a 33-point outing to lead the Celtics.

Following the game. Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson credited the Celtics for their play.
“The first thing we learned was the force and physicality,” Atkinson said. “They had playoff force and physicality, and we had regular season force and physicality. That’s why we were down whatever we were down. In the second half we turned up, but it was kind of too late.”
“Strategically, you learn things, too. Different things to put you in tough positions.”

Atkinson assured reporters that the team would bounce back and spoke about his trust in the current Cavs roster.
“We have a lot to store in the bank,” Atkinson said. “We’re gonna see these guys in two weeks. A lot of stuff we can improve on. I could’ve been better prepared on both ends of the ball. Credit to them, we’ll have another shot at them soon.”
