The Nebraska Cornhuskers were not supposed to be making any noise in the Big Ten this year. A 6-game losing streak in January seemed to all but confirm this take, but suddenly, Nebraska is on a massive win streak and poised to find themselves as a sure-fire at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.
Nebraska’s Season Has Completely Turned Around in February
After a road defeat to Wisconsin in January 26th, Nebraska lost their 6th straight game and were near the bottom of the Big Ten standings. After a 3-point loss to Rutgers, another 3-point loss on the road at Maryland, and a 5-point loss to USC, the Badgers blew the doors off the Cornhuskers, who appeared to be buried – but what happened next, nobody could have predicted.

Nebraska has now rattled off 4 straight wins, with 3 of those being coveted Quad 1 results. Their first step in the right direction was an overtime victory over #18 Illinois. Although Nebraska shot under 40% from the field and were outrebounded by 16, they forced 17 Illini turnovers to win the game 80-74.
Next up was a road upset of #16 Oregon, which was followed by a comeback win in Seattle against Washington. The Huskers then returned home and needed another second-half surge to eke out a hard-fought result against Ohio State on Sunday. While the team had some moments of adversity in all four games, there was one constant in all four wins – and his name is Brice Williams.
Oh would you look at that.

Nebrasketball wins again! This team looked dead in the water, now have won 4 in a row and have created significant distance from the teams out of the field.

Brice Williams Has Been One of the Best Players in the Big Ten
Senior wing Brice Williams been every inch of dominant during the win streak. He has averaged 25.5 points per game over two weeks in addition to 6.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He has displayed some streaky shooting, with a 4-7 performance against Washington followed by 1-6 against Ohio State, but his shot-making ability when it matters most never seems to fade.

Williams has been a rugged three-level scorer who seems to have the ultimate confidence in himself no matter who is guarding him. He has a legitimate shot to be All-Big Ten first team this season. With a dozen games with over 20 points, he has proven his ability to score with the best of them. Nebraska is now finally grinding out wins and is a near-lock for an at-large bid to March Madness.

Plenty more big games remain for Brice Williams and the Huskers. Next up is a home game against #25 Maryland on Thursday. The Terps recently dominated Rutgers, with freshman big man Derik Queen imposing his will for 29 points and 15 rebounds. Queen and Maryland forward Julian Reese figure to be matchup problems against Nebraska, who had key big man Berke Buyuktuncel exit the game versus Ohio State after rolling his ankle.
