Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy tragically died at 24 in an apparent suicide during a police chase in Houston, Texas, late Saturday night. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit ended when Lacy’s vehicle crashed. When officers approached the car, they discovered he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. LSU issued a statement expressing condolences, highlighting his contributions to the football program, and extending sympathies to his family and former teammates.

Kyren Lacy was facing charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle following a December 2024 car accident in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacy, who had declared for the NFL draft just days after the accident, allegedly fled the scene without seeking help and was later booked on the charges. His legal troubles significantly impacted his NFL draft prospects.

Lacy played in 12 games during his last season at LSU. He ranked second on the team for both catches (58) and receiving yards (866), while leading in touchdowns with nine.

“I’m overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for the incredible young woman you’ve become,” Brooks said in her comment. “Your fearlessness, competitiveness, beauty, brains, and impeccable class inspire me every day.”
