Former NBA Star Still Eyeing For a Comeback Following Nagging Injuries in Past Seasons: “I Want to Walk Off The Court My Way”

Former NBA star John Wall has not played in the league since January 2023. Ever since he’s been marred by injuries, Wall has had difficulty finding a team that would allow him to play good minutes. While the journey has been rough for the former All-Star, he hasn’t given up and is still eyeing a comeback.

Recently, Wall was at the G-League Winter Showcase and debuted as a broadcaster. The event took place in Orlando and the 6-foot-4 point guard had broadcasting duties for two games.

He clarified that he has not formally stepped away from playing basketball. If a team gives Wall a chance, he is still willing to play. Because of his continued passion for basketball, he has taken on a new career as a broadcaster.

“I’m always going to critique myself,” Wall said. “I can get a lot better. I’m learning more and more, but for me, it’s talking about basketball — what I love to do. It’s what I do when I’m home, watching with my friends and kids.”

On Saturday, the G-League had two games and Wall was part of the broadcasting crew, talking nonstop for five hours about basketball. As he dissected defenses and offered advice on the field, he gave viewers a peek into his basketball brain throughout his broadcast.

While on the broadcast team, Wall talked about his experience with the G-League Winter Showcase last year, where tried out for different teams.

“I was here last year working out for a couple teams,” Wall said. “I was on the other court, working out before games. That was fun. This was fun.”

NBA star John Wall wants to retire on his own terms

He hasn’t been the same player since being hurt in the 2018–19 campaign. But. Wall thinks he can still perform at a high level and is unwilling to give up.

“You do all you can to take care of yourself, and injuries are still part of the game of basketball,” Wall said. “Yeah, I think about that. The time I had, I enjoyed. I get frustrated at times. But God don’t make no mistakes.”

The five-time All-Star hopes to capture the attention of NBA teams this season as he looks to retire on his terms.

“It’d mean the world,” Wall said. “You want to go out on your own terms. I want to finish it the way I want. If I play my last game, I want to walk off the court my way.”
