Giannis Antetokounmpo recently expressed his desire to finish his NBA journey with the franchise that drafted him. However, speculation has been circulating across the NBA that Giannis Antetokounmpo could eventually find himself at the center of trade discussions this season.
Meanwhile, veteran reporter Sam Amick suggested that Antetokounmpo’s uncertain situation in Milwaukee is expected to intensify once the offseason arrives.
“It would be ill-advised for any potential suitor to give up any assets in another trade now that might come in handy later,” Amick wrote.
Meanwhile, Brian Windhorst revealed that several NBA teams are pressing pause on trade activity while monitoring Giannis’ availability. According to Windhorst, franchises are carefully positioning themselves in case the Bucks star unexpectedly hits the market.
“The Miami Heat, in particular, have been overstated as a potential destination, sources said,” Windhorst wrote. “The Heat have been laser focused on avoiding taking on money for the 2027-28 offseason — a season when, as of right now, Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Donovan Mitchell, among others, could all be unrestricted free agents. It’s highly unlikely the Heat would deviate from that plan to go after Morant, sources said.”
Milwaukee also understands that any decision to part ways with Antetokounmpo would require a massive return aimed at securing the franchise’s long-term future. For that reason, the Bucks are unlikely to make such a drastic move unless circumstances force their hand.
Victor Wembanyama Reflects on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Career Path
Following the Bucks’ 119–101 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, Victor Wembanyama shared his thoughts on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation. Wembanyama explained that he approaches Giannis’ career with a mindset focused on learning rather than judgment, especially given the unique paths international players often face in the NBA.
“I’m trying to learn as much as I can, even though you have to acknowledge that every situation, every story is different — even more so for foreign players like us. I’m nobody to judge how his career has unfolded,” Wembanyama said.
“I have a lot of respect for what he’s doing on the court, and what he continues to do. I think he still has quite a few years ahead of him, and I’m very curious to see how the next chapter of his career will play out.”
Giannis logged 22 minutes against San Antonio, finishing with 21 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Wembanyama experienced Giannis’ physical dominance firsthand during the game. As a two-time MVP, Antetokounmpo has already delivered an NBA title to Milwaukee and cemented a legacy that the franchise and its fans will never forget.
