Following several months of a contract standoff, the Golden State Warriors reached an agreement with Jonathan Kuminga on Tuesday. The two parties agreed on a two-year, $48 million contract for the restricted free agent to stay with the Warriors. Following the move, Golden State was able to address some of its roster concerns and finalized the deals to land Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton. Additionally, the franchise added Seth Curry, the younger brother of superstar Steph Curry.
Even before the offseason began, there was already a certain level of concern regarding the 6-foot-8 forward’s future with the team. He hasn’t been a consistent starter and has typically played off the bench. The addition of All-Star forward Jimmy Butler last season was a further indication that he won’t be part of the starting five.
Before the contract talks, the 22-year-old forward reiterated his desire to have a bigger role, which is why he wanted to move on from the Warriors. Golden State, however, was unwilling to let him leave for nothing. This led to the standoff, which lasted the entire offseason.

After the deal was finalized, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas reacted to the news in a video. The former Warriors guard felt bad for Kuminga and even criticized his agent, Aaron Turner.
“I don’t know if I should be congratulating you or be like, damn, man, you alright, man?” the three-time All-Star said. “Hey, hang in there, big dog. Because that’s what type of deal this is. Two years, 48.5 (million). You waited all summer for this? You could have got this after your second season. What kind of amateur representation you have? You have to be the agent’s biggest client.”

Kuminga’s agent breaks his silence following the contract agreement

It wasn’t the ideal deal for Kuminga and his camp, but it still favors them. The second year of the contract is a team option, which is designed to be ripped off the deal for a new contract. Initially, the young forward wants a contract that would allow him to earn at least $30 million per season with a player option.
But things didn’t go his way. Still, he and his camp are optimistic about the recent contract agreement. Turner broke his silence on Tuesday, shortly after it was finalized.
“JK is ready to go! Appreciate all the guys who helped over the last month! We Love the support from those that see the truth about JK, and love the hate even more. Trust me all the reciepts are being kept! Let’s Hoop! #JustKnow,” Turner posted on X.
The Warriors expect the former G League Ignite star to play an important role next season.
