“Nobody’s Been Successful on Both” – Former Golden State Warriors Star Takes a Jab at Draymond Green For Being ‘Limited’

A large number of players in the current NBA have become content developers. One of the players who made this transition was Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. While he’s still active in the league, Green started his own program, “The Draymond Green Show.” He started it in November 2021 by himself and now has a co-host, former Warriors star Baron Davis.

There have been others who have done it after him, but he is not the first. Stars like Paul George, Derrick White, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart are just some of the few active players who have started their own shows. Even retired players like Shaquille O’Neal, Gilbert Arenas and Jeff Teague have entered the media space through their podcasts.

Former NBA star Stephen Jackson (Matt Barnes’ co-host of All The Smoke Podcast) noticed a pattern, though. According to him, there aren’t any players who can be successful in playing the sport and doing a podcast about it.

“Half the players that’s playing that have podcasts, they can’t do it,” Jackson said. “I ain’t seen nobody be successful doing it yet. They’re successful in the media space. I’m talking about on the court and podcast, nobody’s been successful on both.

Stephen Jackson says there are no NBA players who can be both successful basketball players and successful podcasters, and he calls Draymond Green a super limited player 👀

The former Golden State Warriors star asked their guests, the Club 520 Podcast crew, to name one player who’s been successful on both. Bishop B Henn (B Hen) mentioned Green.

“But his role is super limited on what he gotta do. He’s not like the guy on the team — the go-to guy, the star. He just go around to do the dirty work.”

Jackson then mentioned George, who had to shut down his podcast last season to focus on basketball. But B Hen argued that it was the star forward’s injuries that had slowed him down.

Before Jackson started his media career, he was part of a successful Golden State Warriors team. He wasn’t the best player on the team, but he was one of the top contributors. He was part of the team from 2007 to 2010.

When he asked to be traded, that’s the season Stephen Curry came into the league from Davidson. No one knew that he would’ve turned the league around with his talent from beyond the arc. Even Jackson, who bounced around the league after his stint with the Warriors, had no idea.

According to him, he regrets leaving the franchise.

“That’s when I told them I wanted to get traded, right after Steph came,” Jackson said. “I wish I would’ve known Chef Curry was gonna be Chef Curry.”

Curry went on to become one of the best players in the league, winning four NBA championships.
