Golden State Warriors: Steve Kerr Gets 100% Honest on Jonathan Kuminga’s Future With the Team

Jonathan Kuminga is expected to hit restricted free agency after not signing an extension with the Golden State Warriors this season.

Kuminga can sign with another team, but the Golden State Warriors can match any offer to keep him. If Kuminga somehow stays in the Bay Area after this summer, head coach Steve Kerr has big plans for the 22-year-old swingman.

“If JK comes back, we will for sure spend the early part of the season playing him with Jimmy, Draymond, Steph,” Kerr said via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “To me, that would be a no-brainer. We didn’t have that luxury this year. We basically have been in the playoffs the minute we got Jimmy, and that was also when JK got hurt.”

“I thought he had a really good year. He was really coming into his own before he got hurt. The injury really hurt him. When he came back from the injury, he was not in rhythm; he was not the same player he was when he got hurt. That put an obstacle in our way when we’re trying to get to the playoffs,” he added.

Golden State Warriors News: Jonathan Kuminga unsure of his future with the team

Jonathan Kuminga was one of the Golden State Warriors’ brightest spots during the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 24.3 points over the series’ final four games. Before this, he had been in and out of Steve Kerr’s rotations due to scheme fit and an ankle injury.

“I don’t know how those things go,” Kuminga said via Michael Wagaman of NBC Sports. “I’ll learn more going through the summer. It don’t really matter. I’m going to let my agent handle things like that. I’ll just listen to what he’ll tell me.

“I just tell him to take his time. I’m going to take my time too, figure out what I’m going to do with my day because I’m bored,” he added.
