The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga appear to be headed for a split, as the latter reportedly requested a trade on Thursday – the first day he was eligible to be dealt after signing a two-year contract extension with the team last summer.
During a recent interview, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called Kuminga’s request unfortunate. However, he reiterated that he’s not on bad terms with the 23-year-old swingman, who has racked up 13 consecutive DNP-CDs despite being 100 percent healthy.
“Our relationship is fine,” Kerr told NBC Sports Bay Area. “There’s not a whole lot I can say about the other stuff. It is what it is. Difficult situation for everybody. Part of this league, part of this job. We just keep moving forward. But it’s a tough situation, and I don’t really have much to add.”
“It won’t be a distraction. Jonathan’s a great young guy. His teammates like him. He’s handling himself well. There won’t be a distraction,” he added.

Golden State Warriors stars chime in on Jonathan Kuminga’s trade request
Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry doubled down on Steve Kerr’s take that Jonathan Kuminga’s trade request will not be a distraction to the team, which secured a 126-113 home win against the New York Knicks on Thursday.
“It’s a very unique situation,” Stephen Curry said via Anthony Slater of ESPN. “Our job is to keep playing, keep winning. It’ll resolve itself one way or the other. I like where we are at. I like the vibes. I like how we are playing.”
“We love JK in this locker room,” Butler added. “That’s not going to change. If that happens to not be in here, we still rock with JK. That’s for everybody. I wish him the best here. I wish him the best wherever… Whatever brings him his joy and his happiness, that’s what I want.”
