Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson has seen enough from rising star Jonathan Kuminga to declare him as the future face of the franchise.

Kuminga was pivotal for the Warriors in their all-important win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, and so Thompson made sure to give his teammate his well-deserved flowers following the showdown.

Kuminga was one of the main contributors in the Warriors’ 128-121 win over the Lakers, as he benefited greatly after LA lost Anthony Davis to injury.

With the painted area opening up without Davis, the Warriors kept attacking the basket. Kuminga was heavily utilized in those plays, using his insane athleticism to deliver rim-rattling dunks to demoralize the Purple and Gold.

There were a couple of times when Kuminga connected with Draymond Green for an alley-oop slam, with the most noteworthy coming in the second quarter when Dray sent it from halfcourt for Kuminga to throw down.

Another Kuminga highlight came late in the contest when Stephen Curry stole the ball from LeBron James and dished it to Kuminga for another massive dunk. It effectively put the game away with the scores at 126-117.

The 21-year-old finished with 23 points on top of two rebounds and four assists. Thompson added 26, while Curry led the way with 31 points.

In his postgame presser, Klay Thompson had high praises for his young teammate. Jonathan Kuminga is know for his athleticism, but the other half of the Splash Brothers pointed out how amazing it is up close. He knows after watching Kuminga for years now.

Thompson commended Kuminga’s athleticism and event went as far as to saying that he’s the future face of the Golden State Warriors.

“(Kuminga) might be the best athlete in the NBA. … He’s the future of the franchise,” Thompson declared, via Warriors on X (formerly Twitter).

Those are certainly big words from a franchise icon, and it speaks a lot on the talent that Kuminga has and the work he has put in to earn a spot in the Dubs’ roster.

Sure enough, Kuminga still has a lot to learn, but based on Thompson’s comments, he’s on the right track.
