“Other Names Have Been Reported as Well” – Golden State Warriors Linked to 2 NBA Stars at the Trade Deadline

While Stephen Curry is still playing at his best, the Golden State Warriors are still intent on winning an NBA title. Last season, the Warriors made a significant upgrade to their roster by trading for All-Star forward Jimmy Butler. With Butler, Golden State secured the seventh seed in the Western Conference and made it all the way to the second round of the playoffs.

This offseason, they haven’t made major additions to their roster. The contract negotiations with free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga have kept them from making other moves. Aside from free agency, there are other ways the Warriors can strengthen their group. Another opportunity for the team to get assistance for its star players comes during the NBA trade deadline for the 2025–2026 season.

According to Clutchpoints’ Brett Siegel, the trade deadline is lining up to be quite eventful for the Warriors. The NBA insider linked the franchise to two superstars, who could be targets for the team.

“This idea of the Warriors wanting to trade Kuminga after bringing him back on a new deal has been prevalent and has continued to lead to speculation of who the franchise would target. Having Kuminga on a cap figure north of $20 million is highly advantageous to the organization, and it gives the Dubs plenty of options to explore before the trade deadline,” Siegel wrote.

“Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James are obviously the Warriors’ two dream targets, yet other names have been reported as well.”

Just like the Golden State Warriors, James and Antetokounmpo are eager to win another championship. The Los Angeles Lakers have shifted their focus to Luka Doncic, which could lead to a potential trade for the four-time champion. The Milwaukee Bucks, on the other hand, are trying to satisfy the Greek Freak by surrounding him with quality role players.

Amid the contract stalemate between the Golden State Warriors and Kuminga, the star players have been silent. However, Siegel reported last week that Curry, Butler and Draymond Green have reached out to the front office regarding the free agent forward.

According to Siegel, the trio wants him back and is also interested in what the Warriors’ plans.

“Over the last few weeks, the Warriors veterans — Curry, Green, and Butler — have all communicated with the Dubs’ brain trust to get a deal done, sources said. All three stars want Kuminga back on the roster, as his athleticism, durability, and production can’t be replicated. If lost, Kuminga’s void will be felt throughout the 82-game season.”

Until now, the Warriors and Kuminga haven’t agreed on anything, which has stunted their progress this summer.
