Paul George will play for the Philadelphia 76ers, beginning in the 2024-25 NBA season. He could have been with the Golden State Warriors, though, if only the Los Angeles Clippers were honestly willing to send him there, according to Dubs forward Draymond Green, who said LA “didn’t want to play ball.”
“I mean there were other free agency moves and Paul George is the biggest of the summer and he is planning to sign a four-year deal with the 76ers. Also, a little salty about that because as you all know Paul George was going to come to the Warriors and we wanted Paul George to come to the Warriors and you know we always talk about these organizations and what they do for their players and whatnot and for us to give Paul George would have taken a signed trade and the Clippers didn’t really want to play ball”

The Golden State Warriors missed out on Paul George

It was previously reported that the Warriors and the Clippers were in talks about a potential sign-and-trade with George at the center. However, the Warriors were said to have refused to include Jonathan Kuminga in the deal, leading to the negotiation’s collapse.
Instead, George decided not to pick up his player option for the 2024-25 season with the Clippers and agreed to a $211.58 million maximum contract with the 76ers.

So far this season, the two biggest news out of Golden State are that of the Warriors losing Klay Thompson and failing to acquire George. The Dubs have agreed to a deal with Kyle Anderson, but that’s not going to move the needle for the Warriors as much as if George joined them.
Fans react to Green’s statement

“Clippers would rather let PG walk away for free as a free agent than work out a trade with Warriors lol. Imagine being this petty of a franchise.”
“warriors didn’t want to give up kuminga + we stayed out the second apron and got better lmfao”
“Dudes literally just lying now. Warriors wouldve been in the second apron if they did the trade”
“The Warriors also have a garbage offer, and LAC would’ve been stuck with Wiggins’ contract for another 2 years”
“And they did the right thing by doing that, he wanted an all-star teammate for free for “Moses Moody” lmao”
“Why would the Clippers trade a future HOFer to a team that they will be competing with in the West????”
