The Golden State Warriors opened their 2025-26 NBA campaign with a 119-109 road win against the Los Angeles Lakers, who were without veteran star LeBron James.

Jimmy Butler led the team in scoring with 31 points, five rebounds, and four assists on 7-for-14 shooting from the field and 16-for-16 from the free throw line. Stephen Curry, Jonathan Kuminga, and Buddy Hield added 23, 17, and 17 points. During the postgame interview, Curry explained how the Golden State Warriors regrouped at halftime to take control of the match after a “stagnant” second period.
“Our organized chaos took over in that first four minutes (of the second half)—easy layups, easy catch-and-shoot threes just off of ball movement. Warriors basketball took over,” Curry explained.

“I just love to hoop. I love the teammates I have and the opportunity to just keep chasing, hopefully another title, but also great basketball in the process. It brings the best out of you,” he added.
Golden State Warriors News: Stephen Curry makes history in opening night vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Stephen Curry, 37, just achieved an old-man record during the Golden State Warriors’ win against the Los Angeles Lakers. As pointed out by Polymarket Hoops, the two-time league MVP became the oldest guard in NBA history to score at least 20 points in a season opener.

On the other hand, co-star Jimmy Butler’s 31 points were his highest scoring game in a Golden State Warriors uniform, and head coach Steve Kerr praised his all-around performance.
“It was the reason we became a good team last year. As soon as we got him, he provides that stability, the ability to get fouled and go to the line and settle the game down,” Kerr said about Butler via NBC Sports Bay Area. “He never turns the ball over. So, he just controls the game out there for us. We need that, we’ve always been at our best when we can provide the support for Draymond and Steph’s chaos with some stability. That’s what Andre (Iguodala) did, that’s what Shaun Livingston did.”
