“Incredibly Lucky” – Golden State Warriors Head Coach Credits Stephen Curry For His Success

Since Steve Kerr was hired to be the head coach of the Golden State Warriors in 2014, it has blossomed into a beautiful partnership. Kerr has helped the Warriors become one of the best teams in the 2010s, winning four NBA championships. That is, with the help of All-Star players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala.

Curry is largely responsible for Kerr’s coaching success. The star guard is a generational player who changed the game of basketball with his ability to shoot 3-pointers. It helped the former NBA player to maximize his coaching strategy of using small ball.

In the latest episode of the “Glue Guys Podcast,” the Warriors coach credited Curry for how he shaped his coaching career. According to him, if it weren’t for the former Davidson star, he would’ve ended up like most NBA coaches, who only lasted a few years.

“I’m well aware that the reason I’m still here is because Steph Curry is still here,” Kerr said. “I’m not being modest, I’m just telling the truth.”

“If I didn’t have Steph [Curry], I would have been like every other NBA coach and lasted a few years and gone somewhere else. I’m incredibly lucky to have this partnership with Steph. He provides stability and continuity with the organization that makes everybody’s job easier.”

The Golden State Warriors coach also gave an example of another head coach who credits one player for their career. Kerr said that San Antonio Spurs president Gregg Popovich always gives former star Tim Duncan all the credit for helping shape his career.

Curry has set himself apart from the rest of the NBA due to what he’s done. The 6-foot-2 guard has won four championships, two MVPs, one regular-season MVP and has earned multiple All-Star game appearances.

During Kerr’s guest appearance in the podcast, he pointed out that the Golden State Warriors star has similarities to his former teammate, Michael Jordan.

“It’s the most amazing mindset that I’ve ever seen, Michael had a similar mindset,” Kerr said. “But Michael’s mindset appeared to be more of a desire to kill an opponent, to just stick the knife in and twist it. Steph is more about the joy of the act of shooting the ball. You know, and that’s what makes it so beautiful to watch Steph.”

Kerr continued and said that both players are confident in what they can do on the floor with the basketball.
