The NBA community just got some miraculous news after Delonte West confirmed he’s now 30 days sober from drugs and alcohol while staying in a rehabilitation program after battling addiction for years.

West’s journey has been brutal. The ex-Mavs star reportedly earned over $16 million during his eight-year NBA career. But mental health issues and substance abuse forced him to take retirement. From panhandling on street corners to multiple arrests, West’s fall from grace became one of the league’s most heartbreaking stories.

West played for the Celtics, SuperSonics, Cavaliers, and Mavericks from 2004 to 2012. His career had numerous highs and lows, which he later explained were tied to his struggles with bipolar disorder, something he has spoken openly about since retiring.

After hanging up his sneakers, things got dark fast. Police found him unconscious in Fairfax County recently. Mark Cuban previously stepped in to help, picking West up from a gas station in 2020 and paying for rehab. That attempt didn’t stick long-term.
But this time feels different. West shared his progress in a recent Instagram post marking the 30-day achievement. The video shows him dancing and celebrating the milestone while in treatment. His energy appears genuine, and his smile seems genuine.

The hoops community responded with overwhelming support, keeping fingers crossed to see him with more clean days.
One fan wrote, “2026 starts strong seeing Delonte West back sober.”
Another added, “Just seen that delontae west been 30 days sober and clean that’s the type of news I like to see”
A third noted, “That’s great news. Rooting for Delonte’s continued success on his journey.”
The fourth shared, “Hope he gets his 90 day coin, and plenty more.”
The fifth one hoped, “May he stay clean”
A sixth one added, “good to see him fresh and moving, curious if he can still ball”
Recovery takes time and isn’t always smooth. West has struggled with relapses and was arrested twice in October 2022 for public drinking. Videos of him dancing outside 7-Elevens went viral for negative reasons.
But now he has passed his last 30 days without any violence, taking nothing unhealthy to remain absolutely clean. Quite frankly, that’s worth winning an NBA title for him. The NBA community knows the uphill battle West faces. One day at a time remains the only way forward.
