The Houston Rockets have to decide about the future of their young stars, Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green, as they are eligible for contract extensions before they enter restricted free agency next summer if not renewed.

Green already expressed his interest in signing a new deal. Sengun followed suit during the Houston Rockets’ annual media day, saying that extension talks between him and the front office are underway.
“We have been talking. I want to get the contract, and they are trying to negotiate with us, and we are trying to negotiate with them. So, it has been good. We are going to make it work. We still have time, and hopefully, we can make it work,” Sengun said.

According to Houston Rockets beat writer Jonathan Feigen, there’s a “legitimate chance” the team and Sengun will agree on a new contract soon after months of skepticism.
Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green can command extensions worth up to $224 million over five seasons. The deadline for extension agreements is October 21, 2024. Sengun will earn roughly $5.4 million this upcoming season.
Houston Rockets’ Steven Adams is impressed with Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun made 63 regular season appearances for the Houston Rockets in 2023-24, averaging 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 53.7 percent shooting from the field. However, his season was cut short due to a serious leg injury he suffered during a March 10 match against the Sacramento Kings.

Now that he is back to 100 percent fitness (or close to it), Alperen Sengun is bound to have a bounceback year, according to his teammate Steven Adams.
“What’s good about him is that his body language is very unorthodox. He can be in a very awkward position, but it’s actually a really good position for him… but when you’re processing it as a defender, you think it’s not,” Adams said about Sengun during media day.
“He’s got a lot of good tools, mate. And he’s definitely hungry, which is good,” he added.
