Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet reassured the fans with an optimistic outlook on the team during their 102-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday.
As part of the commentary crew, VanVleet used the opportunity to address the Houston Rockets fans, who are seemingly growing concerned about the team’s inconsistent form. At the same time, the one-time NBA champion spoke about mentoring Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard.
“You want to help them play to their strengths,” VanVleet said via Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle. “None of them can play like me, and I can’t play like them. I show them what I see. It’s better that they’re asking questions and they want to know stuff like that. It’s been good so far just to help them in spots and be able to show them what I see from my vantage point.”
“I think we’re in good shape. I think everybody needs to chill out,” he added. “I’ve been on Twitter a lot more this year than ever before since I’m not playing. I just think everybody needs to chill out and take the growth and the development of this team. We’re in good shape going into the break, and the real basketball starts after the All-Star break.”

Houston Rockets News: Fred VanVleet is giddy about playing alongside Kevin Durant
Because of his knee injury, Fred VanVleet may have to wait until next season to share the court with Kevin Durant. The Houston Rockets floor general already has an idea how he’ll fit alongside the one-time league MVP.
“You don’t want him to have to think too much, don’t want him to have to do too much work,” VanVleet said of Durant. “Sometimes he’s working too hard to get the ball, and he goes too long without touching it at times.”
“We want to make the game easy for him, and I know that is crazy to say because he makes it look so effortless, but I think there’s a ton of ways that I can help him be effective and give him more looks out there,” he added.
