The Houston Rockets are quickly becoming one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA, thanks to the collection of talent the front office has gathered for Ime Udoka.
Alperen Sengun is now considered the team’s centerpiece. The fact ESPN ranked him as the best Rocket in their Top 100 Players list is a testament to how great the Turkish big man has performed over the 2023-24 season.

Jalen Green is the other major contributor to the Rockets’ rise to relevance. The former second-overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft has always been a reliable offensive player who properly negates any defensive liabilities he causes.
His contributions to the team last season was so effective that the Rockets decided to extend his stint with the team. What makes this move interesting is the nature of the contract he signed.
Jalen Green secures unique three-year, $109 million contract from the Houston Rockets

Fadeaway World’s Vishwesha Kumar reported that the former G League Ignite standout bagged a contract never before seen in rookie contract extensions:
Jalen Green, one of the most promising young stars in the NBA, has secured a groundbreaking three-year, $106 million rookie contract extension with the Houston Rockets. The deal, reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, which includes a player option in the third year, sets a unique precedent in the league, as Green becomes the first player to negotiate a 2-plus-1 rookie extension on a nine-figure contract.
This structure allows Green the flexibility to potentially increase his earnings while staying with the Rockets, solidifying his role as a cornerstone of the team’s future.
The deal is a lucrative one for Green. While his new deal only runs until the 2027-28 season, it secures him of a payday that could go up to $37,950,617 if he takes the player option. If he doesn’t think the Rockets are going anywhere with their build, he can enter the free agent market by the 2027 offseason and provide an instantaneous offensive boost to a contender.
Green was a delight to watch for Rockets fans last season. He averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists with 42.3%/33.2%/80.4% shooting splits. His defensive chops also showed an upward tick last season with a defensive box plus-minus of -0.9.

Now that they have secured Green’s services for the foreseeable future, the Houston front office can focus on finding the best deal possible for Alperen Sengun and lock in the team’s cornerstone duo for the foreseeable future.
