Last night’s matchup between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers marked the 44th meeting between Kevin Durant and LeBron James, and the two veteran stars made history on Thursday night.
According to Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle, the legendary battle between Durant and James is the highest-scoring matchup in NBA history, as the two veterans entered Thursday night with 73,630 points combined. After the game, Durant spoke about his history with James.
“I feel like the standard that LeBron has set for greatness and loving the game and enthusiasm for the game is something I’m trying to emulate as I get older,” Durant said. “I’m just grateful for every matchup that we have.”
“The league is constantly growing, and we have a small part in that. The league is bigger than just a couple of players. But I feel as though we’ve helped push the game forward, knowing that there’s not a lot of players still in their 30s doing it,” he continued. “That’s the best part, that we’re still being counted on to help our team win games. It’s not a farewell tour type of vibe with us being two older guys in the league.”

Houston Rockets News: Amen Thompson discusses latest victory vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Amen Thompson led the way for the Houston Rockets in last night’s 119-96 road victory, as he contributed 26 points (game-high), seven rebounds, and five assists on 12-for-19 shooting from the field in 32 minutes of action.
“We’ve got to really try to impose our own game and try to blow teams out,” Thompson told the Houston Chronicle. “We don’t want to be playing 40 minutes every game. That was my mindset.”
“I feel like we’re such a good team,” he continued. “I feel like sometimes we try to stay in games because we feel like our talent is gonna win it. But if we just let our talent take over for the first couple quarters, then that happens.”
