Houston Rockets head coach recently revealed that point guard duties will be divided between his forwards and center to offset the absence of Fred VanVleet who will be out for the whole season after suffering a torn right ACL during workout last month.

It will be a team effort to replace him according to head coach Ime Udoka.
“It will be a committee all of the above I think we have a lot of versatility and some of that will play out in training camp,” Udoka told reporters during media day.
“You look at Amen [Thompon], you look at Reed [Sheppard] those guys we’re gonna have to play alot more and initiate anyway.”
Thompson and Sheppard emerge as the best possible replacement. Add JD Davison to the list as according to Udoka, the 2025 G-League MVP has been impressing in the training camp.
“He’s been great. Very aggressive, handles well, makes good decisions out of the pick and roll,” the coach told reporters during the training camp.
“He’s a big body who can pick up full court, so he brings aggression on both sides of the ball. He’s taken advantage of the opportunity.”

Davidson joined the Rockets over the summer from the Boston Celtics where he played just 16 games. He played 30 games for the Cs affiliate Maine and posted 25.1 ppg, 5.2 rph, and 7.5 apg.
He signed a two-way contract which means he will divide his time between Rockets and Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Houston Rockets’ ranking does not change
VanVleet is a huge loss for the Rockets but the latest power rankings doubt they will fall off. They remain inside the Top 5 in overall rankings.
NBA.com put them as the third best team in the Western Conference although it pointed out one major problem.

“There’s still not a ton of shooting around Durant, with Finney-Smith and Aaron Holiday being the only other Rockets who shot the league average or better on at least 100 3-point attempts last season.”
Bleacher Report released their own version and put the Rockets as the fourth best team in the league next to reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
