Draymond Green’s excitement peaked during the 2021 NBA draft, and Bob Myers had a very hard time shutting him up.
After almost five years, the wild story is public now, thanks to the Golden State Warriors’ former general manager. During that time, the Warriors forward was in Tokyo for the Olympics, halfway across the world.
Per Myers, that long distance didn’t stop Green from texting him multiple times very early in the morning — relentlessly pushing the ex-GM to draft specific players.
Bob Myers Exposes Draymond Green’s Intense Draft Texts About Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody
A resurfaced Bleacher Report post this week reminded fans of Green’s obsessive involvement in drafting Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody remotely. The former Warriors president shared the entire story, which was absolutely hilarious but annoying for Myers.
He revealed that Green stayed up late, even while representing Team USA at the Olympics. The 35-year-old was glued to his TV as the draft unfolded. After the third or fourth pick, Green began messaging Myers for updates, sharing his choice remotely.
First, he wrote, “KUMINGA.” Myers responded cautiously, penning, “We’ll see if he’s there.” Kuminga was projected to be top five by most analysts. His slide to seven shocked everyone except Green, who’d clearly done his homework.
Then came Green’s second demand. After the ninth pick, he texted Myers again. This time he wrote Moody’s name. Myers doubted the Arkansas guard would fall to 14, and that assumption actually became true. “I don’t think he’s going to be there,” Myers replied, however, right after Green’s text message.
Bob Meyers says that Draymond texted him at ‘4, 5 in the morning’ from Tokyo hinting at which players he wanted GSW to draft in 2021 👀

“Draymond, I talked to at 4 in the morning in Tokyo, at 5 in the morning, and at 6 in the morning,” Myers told reporters after the draft. “I didn’t even give him those names. So, he gave me a big thumbs up. That’s good. I’m glad he’s supportive and appreciate that.”
The irony? Kuminga’s now at the center of trade discussions. Reports suggest some within the organization — including Kerr — wanted Franz Wagner instead.
Wagner went eighth to Orlando and became a two-time All-Star, while Kuminga is averaging 11.8 points this season, which is very inconsistent. His career scoring is not that good either, averaging just 12.5 points over 276 games.
However, that 2021 draft story resurfaced this week for a very specific reason. And it is because Green’s recent behavior has Warriors brass reconsidering his future.
A heated argument with Kerr during a timeout against the Orlando Magic sent Green to the locker room. It was in the headline for over a week until the Bing T coach and player moved on.
Though Kerr said he wants Green to retire as a Warrior, his increasingly outspoken personality in recent times has cast doubt in the community.
