Christian Wood thought November 5 was his last day alive.

The former Lakers big man said he first heard some suspicious sounds while he was alone at his home. What he saw next still gave him nightmares as three masked men tried to break through his back door. Wood reportedly said he took his gun and fired toward the floor, and those intruders fled from his home right away.
He, however, accused his ex-girlfriend of being connected to the chaotic incident. After being granted custody protection, Wood has shared his honest reaction to everything that happened.
Christian Wood Granted Custody After Alleging Ex Yasmine Lopez Was Involved in Murder Scheme
Wood last played for the Lakers in February 2024 before having knee surgery. He filed for an order of protection in mid-November, claiming Yasmine Lopez had performed the break-in plan to disturb his daily life. The former Lakers star also painted a terrifying scene in the document he submitted to the court, claiming he thought those intruders came to kill him that night.
Wood said, “I cautiously exited the restroom and immediately saw three men trying to break into my home. In fear for my life, I quickly ran to obtain a firearm I keep locked in my home. I discharged my firearm toward the floor, in hopes it would scare the men away. I genuinely believed I was going to die.”
The timing raised red flags for Wood and his feelings against his ex seem solid because Lopez posted lyrics from a violent King Von song about murder-for-hire, including gun emojis, roughly an hour before the incident.

“The lyrics explicitly describe a murder for hire and retaliation killing,” Wood noted in court document. “This post was highly unusual for Ms. Lopez, suspicious in timing, and deeply disturbing.”
A Los Angeles court granted Wood’s request for a temporary restraining order, requiring Lopez to stay 100 yards away from him and their 2-year-old son, Kobe Sean Wood. The judge also awarded Wood temporary sole physical custody.
Just to recap, Lopez got arrested in February 2024 for trespassing at Wood’s property after allegedly keying his girlfriend’s Mercedes-Benz. Due to the previous history, the judge couldn’t ignore Wood’s humble request.
Meanwhile, Wood’s ex denied any involvement in the break-in and filed her own restraining order against Wood in December. She reportedly claimed Wood kicked, slapped, and choked her during multiple disputes. The court granted Lopez a restraining order as well.
Wood hasn’t backed down from his claims. He told the court Lopez “has made repeated statements threatening my life and expressing that she wants me dead”. Wood said he’s “living in constant fear” and hired armed security for protection.
A subsequent hearing is scheduled for January 14 to hear both parties’ arguments on cross-petitions for restraining orders. Since both of them are feared for life, the LAPD has not made any arrests related to the November 5 incident.
