For the second consecutive night, the New York Knicks players had to endure a chorus of boos from their own fans at Madison Square Garden. On Monday, New York fell to the Dallas Mavericks in a 114–97 loss, and the home crowd made its frustration unmistakably clear. Karl-Anthony Towns and his teammates were forced to absorb the displeasure of fans who expected far more on their home floor.

Despite the harsh reaction, Towns showed no signs of resentment toward the crowd. Instead, the Knicks big man acknowledged that the fans had every reason to be upset after watching another lackluster performance.
“You spend $140 to represent your favorite player with a jersey. You come to MLK Day here at The Garden and tickets are 3x the price,” Towns said. “I’d be disappointed too. And the fans, you know, they spend their hard-earned money. They give us so much love and motivation to go out there, you know, and they expect the results.
“At the end of the day, regardless of guys last year, guys this year, we’ve got to go out there and win the game. That’s all New York fans care about and rightfully so.”
The frustration wasn’t limited to the stands. Jalen Brunson appeared visibly upset, even leaving the court early after the final buzzer. Like Towns, the Knicks’ star guard admitted the fans’ reaction mirrored his own feelings.
“I would be booing us, too. Straight up,” he said.
The loss marked New York’s fourth straight defeat and continued a troubling stretch in which the Knicks have dropped nine of their last 11 games. Even against a Mavericks team dealing with injuries, New York struggled to keep pace. In the loss, both Towns and Brunson finished with 22 points apiece.
Trade Rumors Begin to Swirl Around Karl-Anthony Towns
As the Knicks’ struggles continue, Karl-Anthony Towns’ name has started to surface in trade discussions around the league. According to reports from Steve Popper, New York has held preliminary talks involving Towns with several teams, including Memphis, Orlando, and Charlotte.
“Whispers around the league have begun to speculate on the possibility of the Knicks moving Towns…league sources said that talks have involved other teams including Memphis, Orlando and Charlotte,” the report read.
Towns is only in his second season with New York. While he began the campaign on a strong note, his recent inconsistencies have drawn attention. Last season, both Brunson and Towns were All-Star starters. This year, however, Towns was left out while only Brunson earned the honor.
However, Towns continues to perform at an All-Star caliber and played a key role in helping the Knicks reach the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Hence, it remains to be seen whether New York will stay patient or consider a major shake-up in the weeks ahead.
