Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark is the biggest draw in women’s hoops today and it’s not even close. She’s not just all hype. Clark is indeed one of the most talented players in the WNBA today even though she’s just in her first year as a pro. However, she won’t be able to give some of her shine to the 2024 WNBA 3-point contest, as she’s not part of the field.

The WNBA invited Clark to take part in the event but the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar respectfully declined. On Friday, Clark sets the record straight about her decision.

Via Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star:

“I think the biggest thing was for me, it’s just like, I need a break,” Clark said. “I’m gonna take some time for myself to enjoy what I want to do, and at times that can be tough in the position I’m in, but I think it was healthiest for myself.”

Apart from Clark, another star in New York Liberty sniper Sabrina Ionescu declined the invitation to take part in the event. It is not clear why Ionescu passed up on the chance to join the contest but she’s probably just trying to focus on preparing for her national team duties. In any case, she and Team USA will be seeing action this Saturday against Clark and the WNBA All-Stars.
