The Indiana Fever’s offense still revolves around star rookie Caitlin Clark, but head coach Christie Sides wants to see more from the former Iowa Hawkeyes sniper after watching the top pick at the 2024 WNBA Draft take fewer shots than usual from the field during Thursday’s 89-77 road loss at the hands of the Seattle Storm.
“Caitlin Clark needs to shoot a minimum of 15 shots a game for us,” Sides said. “She’s got to get shots, and we’ve got to do a better job of setting her up, setting some really good screens for her to get her open.”
Against the Storm, Clark led the Fever with 15 points despite taking only nine attempts from the field. She went 4/9 overall and hit three of her seven tries from behind the arc.

Even if she wanted to take more shots, it’s not as easy as it sounds, as Clark regularly deals with immense defensive attention from opposing teams. She had seven assists against the Storm but also coughed up the ball six times.
The Indiana Fever have to find ways to free up Caitlin Clark
Perhaps the Fever could use some better coaching from Sides in order to get Clark more ideal looks at the basket.

So far in her first season in the pros, Clark is averaging 16.2 points per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from behind the arc. Clark is second on the team with 12.2 field goal attempts per game, while Kelsey Mitchell leads the Fever in that department with 13.4 FGAs per outing. Aliyah Boston is third with 11.1 shots from the floor per contest.
