Kam Jones was drafted by the Indiana Pacers as a contingency for their point guard needs following the injury to Tyrese Haliburton from last NBA Finals but he almost got team plan shattered after the news of his overspeeding and subsequent arrest on Monday. Good thing for him, he got his head coach Rick Carlisle to the rescue.

The Marquette Golden Eagles alum, picked 38th overall in the 2025 draft was arrested by Indianapolis authorities and charged with reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. He was put in jail for one day.
“Jones was arrested because police say he caused a brief pursuit along Interstate 65 that ended on Fletcher Avenue near Fountain Square in Indianapolis,” reports said.
State Police say Jones was driving at a high rate of speed when a trooper attempted to pull him over, but he continued for several miles before stopping.”
Carlisle immediately faced the media, not to excuse the 23-year-old rookie, but to clarify that it was an honest mistake. He also suggested that the reports have been overblown.

“He came in and he was very contrite about the situation,” Carlisle said.
“This is a kid with exemplary character. After hearing the details of this, in the end, this will be a speeding ticket. A lot of times things that are on the police report are overblown. This was a kid driving a little faster than he should have been trying to get to his workout and rehab thing.”
NBA X were quick to judge Jones for this scandal with some saying he is throwing away his career.
Jone apologized to Indiana Pacers, fans
It was a learning moment for Jones who will now be on the spotlight as a pro. He joined his coach in a press conference and apologized for his mistake.
“I’m deeply sorry to the Pacers organization and the fans,” he said.

“This was a pretty traumatic experience for me. I’ve never been through anything like this. It won’t happen again. I’m deeply sorry to the organization. I’m looking forward to getting past this and getting back to work.”
Jones is still deal with back injury and was absent in Pacers’ pre-season games.
