American former basketball safety Jeff Teague has waded into a breakout fight between the Detroit Pistons and the Charlotte Hornets during a bad-tempered NBA fixture. While other analysts have decried the situation, Teague sees a silver lining in the brawl as a possible indicator of the upcoming Playoffs.
Expectedly, the brawl didn’t go without penalties as players settled with a few sanctions to rue. In the meantime, fans can look away from the brawl to celebrate an otherwise steeply competitive NBA outing.
Jeff Teague Shares Rare Take on Hornets vs Pistons Fight

It all began when Detroit’s Jalen Duren got fouled by Charlotte’s Moussa Diabate during the third quarter. Immediately afterwards, the pair confronted one another, seemingly butting heads.
The ensuing confrontation meant Diabate had to be held back while he tried to hit Duren, shortly before other players intervened. On another patch of the court, Detroit forward Isaiah Stewart confronted Charlotte’s Miles Bridges, and placed him in a headlock before seemingly striking him on multiple occasions.
The scuffle lasted about half a minute, halting after a brief police intervention on the floor. Unsurprisingly, swift penalties followed.
Bridges, Diabate, Duren, and Stewart were ejected. Hornets coach Charles Lee was kicked out in the fourth quarter after angrily shouting at the officials over a dissatisfactory decision.
Speaking after the game, Duren admitted emotions flared. He claimed that many other franchises had tried to be “extra aggressive” with his side during previous matches. However, he concluded that his side would love to keep things within the confines of basketball.
On his part, Bridges apologized to Hornets’ fans via Instagram, saying he’ll always make efforts to protect his teammates. Head coach Lee also admitted to his errors during a post-match presser, wishing he was in better control of his emotions during the game.

Jeff Teague draws a silver lining through the unsavory situation. To Teague, who coaches for Pike High School in Indianapolis, the brawl could build intensity ahead of the NBA playoffs. In his words, Teague claims:
“You know what I like about this tho. It’s really an opportunity for them to play in the playoffs now. The 1 vs 8 matchup. It might be a good battle”

The match ended 110-104 in favour of the Pistons, ending a winning streak that was one match away from matching a franchise record. Hopefully, the situation forces players to improve their on-the-court performance – and emotional maturity.
