Ja Morant’s production has reduced this season compared to his recent years. Amid this, tension with the Memphis Grizzlies’ coaching staff, particularly with head coach Tuomas Iisalo, has fueled widespread trade speculation around the franchise star. Some reports have even suggested that both sides may be open to a potential separation.
Despite that noise, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed on SiriusXM NBA that Morant’s preference is to stay in Memphis. However, Stein also noted that the All-Star guard has a specific objective in mind. Morant is eager to reclaim the level of authority and influence he once held within the organization.

“Zach Kleiman is way too pragmatic to let one game change that much,” Stein said. “Ja has made it very clear he does not want to get traded. He wants to stay. The reality is I don’t think there is a huge market for him. I don’t think there’s a trade the Grizzlies could make to sell to their fans.
“He wants to stay but he also wants to have more say like he used too. The franchise does not revolve around Ja Morant anymore like It used too. When Ja Morant clashed with the coach early in the season the FO stood behind the coach in that scenario.”
On the other hand, NBA insider Jake Fischer believes both Morant and the Grizzlies may quietly be preparing for a reset. On his podcast, Fischer suggested that Morant’s public loyalty statements may not fully reflect his true stance.
“The Grizzlies want to move him and I don’t think he wants to be there,” Fischer said. “I know he came out and said he’s loyal but every indication I’ve gotten is he wants to move on from this franchise just like they do.”
Amid the swirling uncertainty surrounding his future, Morant returned to action against the Orlando Magic after missing six games with a right calf contusion. In his first game back, he recorded 24 points, five rebounds, and 13 assists while shooting 7-of-13 from the field.
Dwyane Wade Weighs In as Ja Morant–Miami Heat Rumors Gain Traction
Recently, the Miami Heat have surfaced as the leading potential landing spot for Morant. Reports indicate that Morant himself may be interested in a move to South Beach. On The Wy Network with Dwyane Wade, the former NBA star addressed rumors linking Morant to Miami when asked if he had heard about the speculation.
“Everybody’s ‘trying to get to Miami,’” Wade said. “Every time someone’s getting traded, it’s ’Miami’… everyone knows, it’s well documented that Pat Riley is a whale hunter… I want to win. It’s two teams I want to win, it’s either I want the Jazz to win or I want the Heat to win. Everybody else, have fun.”
It remains unclear whether Morant’s long-term future lies in Memphis. In a recent post-game interview, he reiterated his loyalty to the Grizzlies. But only time will determine whether that commitment ultimately holds or leads to a new chapter elsewhere.
