The Memphis Grizzlies are willing to trade Ja Morant before the February 5 deadline and have started discussing a potential trade with multiple teams. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Saturday about the franchise’s direction regarding Morant’s future. The star guard has been the face of the franchise since they drafted him with the No. 2 pick in 2019, but they are reportedly ready to move on from him.
Over the past few seasons, Morant has been at the center of the news for the Grizzlies. Mostly, it’s about his off-court antics and injuries. His production has declined over the past three seasons. The two-time All-Star has been limited due to injuries and suspensions, which have affected his value in the trade market.
It wasn’t a major concern before since the Grizzlies were a playoff team with Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., his co-star. But things have changed in 2024 when they missed the postseason and were eliminated in the first round in 2025.

When ESPN’s Brian Windhorst gave an update on Morant’s trade value across the NBA on Tuesday, the Grizzlies were given a reality check. The league source revealed the elite guard’s lackluster value.
“In talking to executives around the league, I don’t think Ja’s value is very high right now,” Windhorst said.
The insider revealed that Morant’s inefficient shooting has affected how he’s viewed by teams.
“He’s haveing a terrible shooting season and as he’s gotten further in his career and has dealt with injuries, he has driven to the basket less and less, and shot more and more. The more he shoots, the less his efficiency is.
Windy:

“Right now, if you’re looking at interest in Ja Morant, you’re looking at buying low,” he added. “And that’s what I suspect the type of offers the Grizzlies are going to get.”
The Miami Heat are interested in trading for Ja Morant

There aren’t many teams looking to trade for a point guard, which makes it challenging for the Grizzlies to find a trade partner for Ja Morant. However, the Miami Heat have been reported as a potential trade destination for the 2020 Rookie of the Year.
ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that the Heat are among some of the teams looking to upgrade their backcourt.
“This is potentially the beginning of Ja Morant’s exit in Memphis, and, from my understanding, Miami, Sacramento, multiple other teams have a level of interest and are pursuing Ja Morant,” Charania said. “Rival executives have told me that the Grizzlies are seeking young players and draft picks.
Sports Illustrated’s Rachel Nichols reported that Morant is interested in taking his talents to South Beach. The NBA reporter talked about it on the latest episode of “Open Floor.”
“I know he wants to go down there, from what I’ve heard, I just I can’t imagine that would be a smart move,” Nichols said.
The Heat need a point guard to play with Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.
